NONGSTOIN:

A crack has appeared on the beam of the Kynroh bridge at Mawthungkper village in West Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya, posing a threat to commuters.

The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Lai Lyngdoh Area Unit noticed the crack during a recent inspection of the bridge.

After the inspection, the HYC members filed a complaint with the Executive Engineer PWD (R) Nongstoin and demanded immediate repair of the bridge.

Following complaints from the HYC, West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner T. Lyngwa, accompanied by Executive Engineer and Superintending Engineer of PWD (R) Nongstoin, on April 21, inspected the bridge.

According to Executive Engineer AB Umdor, the steel beam of the Build-Up Girder (BUG) bridge has been damaged.

“We suspect that the rampant and daily plying of over-loaded trucks along this road has damaged this BUG bridge,” he said.

Therefore, to avoid any untoward incident, the Deputy Commissioner has imposed Section 144 CrPC, prohibiting the plying of heavy vehicles through the bridge.
