CM has assured to look into Mawsynram sub division issue: MLA Himalaya Shangpliang

Mawsynram MLA Himalaya Shangpliang on Thursday said that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has assured him that he will look into the demand for the creation of the Mawsynram Civil Sub Division.

“The Chief Minister was very positive in his approach. He said that he will be looking into the issue despite other areas such Laskein (Jaintia) and Patharkhmah (Ri Bhoi) etc., demanding the same," said Shangpliang after meeting the Chief Minister with a delegation representing various NGOs from the area..

Stating that Mawsynram is located far from East Khasi Hills, the administrative headquarters of the state, Shangpliang asserted that the area’s upgradation to a sub division will help bring the administration closer to the people. He said that it will also help in overall development of the area as Mawsynram currently is facing issues such as lack of road connectivity.

According to Shangpliang, Mawsynram has the required infrastructure for the creation of the sub division, and hence financial implications on the same too will be minimal.

Besides the demand for a sub division, Shangpliang stated that he also discussed various issues including law and order, farmers' concerns, challenges in the power sector, and health scenario, among others with the Chief Minister.
