Assam police seize fake currency notes ahead of third phase polls

JORABAT:
Ahead of the third phase of the Assam Assembly election, a police team led by sub-inspector (SI) Rana Bhuyan apprehended an individual with fake currency notes in Jorabat, Assam, on April 4.
According to police, 35-year-old Abdul Rajak of Lakhimpur was on his way to deliver a consignment of Rs 12.5 lakh of fake currency notes in Guwahati.
Following initial interrogation, police stated that the consignment was to be sold in Guwahati in exchange for Rs 3 lakh rupees.
Rajak would have been paid Rs. 50,000 in cash for delivering the consignment.
According to Rajak, the consignment was handed to him by a person from Rupahi-Gunabari area who directed him to deliver the consignment to a person in Guwahati.
The matter is now under investigation.
