DIPHU:

The National People’s Party’s (NPP) Hills Autonomous Unit of Karbi Anglong held a review meeting at the Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) Hall, Diphu, Assam on Saturday, where Meghalaya Power Minister James K Sangma briefed the party workers on strengthening the party in the district.

While briefing the press, Sangma informed that the highlight of the meeting was to review the performance of NPP in the Assam Assembly elections 2021, where the party had placed four candidates from Baithalangso, Howraghat, Diphu and Bokajan, but failed to win any seat.

“Though the NPP did not fare well in the 2021 Assam State Assembly Election from the four Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LAC) of Karbi Anglong, the party candidates fought well,” said Sangma, maintaining that the progress, however, is steady, and the party will definitely make inroads into the district in near future.

When asked about the inter-state border issue between Assam and Meghalaya, Sangma said, “The issue along the West Karbi Anglong-Meghalaya border has been a long-pending one. Over the years, different governments and political parties have come forward to resolve the same, but no solution could be reached. Many have tried to set up committees, but nothing has happened. The longer the issue gets stretched, the harmful it will become."

"A dialogue must begin and there has to be mutual discourse between both the states. We have to start the process on a very earnest note, and I believe both Meghalaya and Assam governments are very sincere in their approach to solve this long-pending issue," Sangma added.

National Youth President, NPYF, Nicky Nongkhlaw, in charge of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao Autonomous Unit of NPP, Lima Longkumer, and party candidates who contested in the 2021 Assembly elections were among the many who attended the meeting.
