SHILLONG:

The regional committee for East Jaintia Hills headed by Tourism Minister Sniawbhalang will hold a joint meeting with its Assam counterpart in Shillong on November 28.

“We will have a joint meeting in Shillong to discuss how to solve the issue (relating to Ratacherra, which is one of six areas of difference between the states in the inter-state border issue),” said Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, who is also a member of the regional committee.

Rymbui said that after the joint meeting, the committees are likely to submit their reports to the respective Chief Ministers of the two states – Conrad K Sangma and Himanta Biswa Sarma.

“I don’t want to disclose anything as of now since the (border) talks are at its crucial juncture. I don’t want to make any statement which may affect and instead of solving the problem, aggravate it,” Rymbui said, asserting on the need to have a positive mindset to solve the border issue.

The regional committees from both sides have been asked to complete the exercise by November 30.
