SHILLONG:

Meghalaya Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said the Home Minister Amit Shah will probably inaugurate the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) project at Mawiong on July 24.

“The date will likely be July 24,” said Dhar.

The Transport Minister told reporters that Shah’s visit is not very certain.

It is expected that once the ISBT is inaugurated, the plying of cars and trucks will be made operational. The ISBT intends to ease traffic congestion in Shillong and to decongest overcrowded parking spaces.

The much-awaited ISBT was sanctioned in the year 2013 and it is a joint venture of the North Eastern Council (NEC) and the State Transport Department at an estimated cost of Rs 48 crore.

It may be noted the first ISBT in the state at Chasingre in West Garo Hills was inaugurated in February last year.
