SHILLONG:

Members of the Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) have sought clarification why were their members barred from attending the autumn session of the Meghalaya Assembly by the police and officials of the district administration, on Wednesday.

In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, the members alleged that despite having obtained 20 passes to attend the session, the members were stopped on the way to Harrison Bridge by the officials, reasoning that they are only acting upon instructions.

"This is neither an exhibition nor a protest. We just wanted to go and sit in the assembly. We've got the passes from the undersigned secretary in charge of Meghalaya legislative assembly since September 9 to attend the session scheduled for September 15," asked, Donbok Dkhar, president of HITO adding that members will apply for permission from the Speaker once again to attend the Assembly Session.
