SHILLONG:

Transport Minister Dasakhiat Lamare has informed that the Airport Authority of India (AAI) is willing to sanction funds for developing a new airport in Meghalaya.

Speaking to the press on November 26, Lamare said that the issue was discussed during a video conferencing with the union civil aviation minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia.

"We need a plot of land measuring 150 acres to build a new airport,” he said, adding that the state government is scouting for a plot, which is near to the capital city, Shillong.

He also said that the Shillong should be connected by flight with other state capitals of the Northeast, besides the national capital, New Delhi.

He said that the Umroi airport and Dimapur are now connected by flight twice a week. "When we flagged off the Umroi-Dimapur flight, the Civil Aviation minister promised to provide more air connectivity to other cities of the Northeast," Lamare informed.
