A political angle into HNLC threat cannot be ruled out: CM Sangma

Referring to the statement issued by the HNLC threatening NPP workers and the top brass, Sangma questioned the timing of the statement. “I wonder why they (HNLC) came up with such a statement just a day before Lamphrang Blah is supposed to join the party. Are they scared that the NPP is growing from strength to strength?” he asked.

SHILLONG:

Condemning the attempted bombing by the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) at the National People’s Party (NPP) office on October 4the national president of NPP and chief minister Conrad Sangma asserted that a political angle into the entire episode cannot be ruled out.

“Why did they come out with a statement just before the bye-election is also something that one has to see. There must be some political angle to all of these. But such things will not deter us and we will keep working harder to make sure that in the upcoming bye-elections, we come out victorious,” he said.

Sangma said that the HNLC’s threat has not deterred the party and it can be gauged from the fact that party members have attended the progamme to declare Lamphrang Blah as the NPP candidate for the Mawphlang seat in large numbers.

He however said that security arrangements in the state will be re-examined in the wake of the October 4 incident and if there is a need for upgradation or additional forces, the police department will look into it and take the call.

He reiterated that the police department and Home Ministry have initiated investigation and action will be taken against the perpetrators based on evidence.
