Smuggled goods worth Rs 4 crore seized in Manipur

Security forces in Manipur confiscated smuggled goods worth over Rs 4 crore from two separate operations along the Indo-Myanmar border.
According to sources, the recovery was made during operations carried out by Chandel and Tengnoupal Battalions of 26 Assam Rifles with the assistance of HQ IGAR (South) on April 26.
The troops of Chandel Battalion detained five vehicles and seven individuals near Angbreshu and New Songyang in Chandel district.
Upon careful checking, illegally smuggled goods worth Rs 1.36 crore were retrieved from the smugglers.
Meanwhile, troops of the Tengnoupal Battalion apprehended two other individuals in a jungle near Tengnoupal.
Recovered items included imported cigarettes, textiles and footwear worth Rs 3.26 crore.
All recovered items and vehicles were handed over to Chandel Police Station and the Forest and Customs Department for further investigation.
