Manipur: Police arrest militant involved in 2013 IED attack on CM’s bungalow

During interrogation, the militant confessed to his involvement in an IED attack at Chief Minister’s bungalow and also at a restaurant in Imphal. He also revealed that he had joined the PREPAK - Pro in 2009, and got trained in Myanmar, the police said.

IMPHAL:

In a successful counter-insurgency operation, Manipur police have arrested a militant responsible for the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack on Manipur Chief Minister’s bungalow in 2013.

Identified as Naoroibam Joyshankar alias Khougang (37), son of N Inaocha Singh of Lairikyrngbam Mekha Leikai area, the militant is an active cadre of the proscribed insurgent outfit People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive (PREPAK-Pro), the police informed. The police arrested him from a village in West Imphal and also seized huge amount of IEDs from his possession.

During interrogation, the militant confessed to his involvement in an IED attack at Chief Minister’s bungalow and also at a restaurant in Imphal. He also revealed that he had joined the PREPAK - Pro in 2009, and got trained in Myanmar, the police said.

From his possession, the police recovered various devices used for making IED bombs, including one set of IED fitted in a tin of fish cane, one air gun rifle, one Chinese hand grenade, three electronic circuits, one remote control device, three detonators, batteries and other materials.
