Manipur: NIA registers charge sheet against two UNLF militants

A charge sheet has been filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) at a special court in Imphal against two militants of the Manipur-based militant group United National Liberation Front (UNLF) for attacking two security forces in the state.

"Investigation has revealed that the charge-sheeted accused persons were part of deep-rooted conspiracy to execute terrorist acts with an aim to terrorise the general population and to wage war against the Indian State," the NIA said in a statement.

The duo - Lisham Ibosana Meitei and Konsam Manithoi Singh have been accused of lobbing a hand grenade at security forces at Raj Bhavan Gate in Imphal, an NIA official said.

The accused have been charged with the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and Explosive Substances Act, the official added.

According to the NIA official, the crime was carried out by the accused on the direction of the hierarchy of the UNLF, who had arranged explosives for them, adding that further investigation in the case is underway.
