IMPHAL:

The Manipur Government has decided to declare all accredited working journalists in the state as COVID frontline warriors, and vaccinate all of them on a priority basis.

"The media fraternity has been working tirelessly throughout these trying times to keep us updated. Now, we have decided to recognise the accredited journalists of Manipur as frontline warriors in the fight against COVID-19 and they will be vaccinated on priority. Please stay safe and continue to serve the people with the same vigour as you have always been doing," Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said through a Facebook post.

Earlier on Wednesday, the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) and the Editor’s Guild Manipur (EGM) had called for an emergency meeting to urge the government to recognise all print and electronic media workers as frontline warriors.

Many other states in India have already announced to vaccinate journalists on a priority basis given the risk their profession involves.
