Manipur creates 18 new govt jobs for state Olympians

The chief minister also informed that Manipur authorities are planning to

develop Olympians' Park dedicated to all the Olympians of Manipur.

Manipur has secured government jobs within the Youth Affairs and Sports activities Division for the Olympians of the northeastern state.

Speaking at the reception programme of India's Men's Hockey team midfielder and Bronze medallist Sangrakpam Nilakanta Sharma at his residential village at Kontha Ahallup, in Imphal East of Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said the state cabinet in its recent meeting had decided to reserve 18 new posts in the Sports Department to accommodate Manipuri Olympians.

The 18 positions created include ten posts of assistant director for participants, five posts of deputy director for medal winners and three posts of joint Director for gold medal winners at the Olympic Games.

The chief minister also informed that Manipur authorities are planning to develop Olympians' Park, a vacationer website dedicated to all the state Olympians in the Sangaithel area in Lansing.

The chief minister also attended a ceremony organised by Thangmeiband Youth Centre for Olympian Sushila Chanu, a member of the Indian women’s hockey team.

Taking to Twitter, CM Singh wrote, "Although the Indian Women Hockey Team narrowly missed the bronze medal at the Olympics, the performance of the team & Sushila in particular, was exceptional." 

Meanwhile, the chief minister stated that a grand reception ceremony will be organised for the Manipuri athletes, who participated in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, and he added that the respective cash rewards and job appointment orders for the remaining Olympians would be handed over to them on the occasion.
