IMPHAL:

The Congress Party delegation led by the leader of the opposition Okram Ibobi Singh submitted a memorandum to Governor of Manipur Nejma Heptulla on Friday, concerning free vaccination for every citizen in the country.

The Congress delegation had a detailed discussion with the governor about the need for free and universal vaccination in India to combat the ongoing COVID pandemic and contain the virus's second wave.

The memorandum also sought the attention of the governor for a free vaccination to all the citizens of Manipur.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Singh expressed the need to have time-bound aggressive and mass vaccination, besides random testing.

He also raised concern over the policies of the government on providing compensation in the form of extending Rs 20 lakhs to Rs 50 lakhs to the doctors, para-medical staff and other frontline COVID warriors who passed away due to COVID-19.

Among other things, Singh also questioned the rationale behind the delay of the second dose of the COVID vaccine in the state, stating that the Prime Minister took the second dose within a gap of one month.

The political leader through the memorandum has also mentioned that the BJP government failed to manage the COVID crises in the country and urged the centre to procure more vaccine doses and supply them to the states for free, as vaccination is the only thing that can bring down the infections in the country.
