Manipur CM Biren Singh distributes e-autos, e-rickshaws to beneficiaries

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh distributed e-autos and e-rickshaws to 65 beneficiaries including nine women at Kangla, Imphal on Wednesday.

The initiative is an undertaking by the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change under Manipur State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC), Government of Manipur to promote e- mobility, to address the existing as well as future challenges of climate change and to reduce the associated risks and vulnerabilities.

CM Singh also spoke on the need to replace all the diesel autos operating in the State with e-autos by providing grants and loans from the Government so that air and noise pollution levels could be mitigated at a certain level.

Referring to the water scarcity faced because of large-scale deforestation, he emphasised the need to contribute towards the preservation of nature. 

The beneficiaries also received an amount of Rs 1,40,000 each as a grant by the Government for the purchase of the e-auto/rickshaw, with some loan benefit also provided by Manipur State Co-operative Bank.

Others who attended the event included Forest and Environment Minister Awangbow Newmai, Education Minister Sorokhaibam Rajen, Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, among others.
