Manipur: Central Bank of India opens branch in remote Phungyar village

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Wednesday inaugurated the Central Bank of India, Phungyar Branch in Kamjong District through a video conference.

Speaking at the occasion, N. Biren Singh said, “The opening of the bank branch, which was a long-standing demand of the people of Phungyar, will facilitate the implementation of various welfare schemes of the Government.”

“The opening of banks in remote areas is integral for inclusive development in the state, and it will help to improve the living standards of the people,” Singh added.

Singh further said that under the supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi more public sector banks have been opened, especially in the backward areas, which has increased cashless transactions and also allowed the public to take advantage of Direct Benefit Transfer schemes.

The function was also attended by the advisor to Chief Minister Sapam Ranjan, Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, representatives of the Central Bank of India, NABARD, Reserve Bank of India, State Bank of India (SBI) and senior Government officials among others. 

The newly inaugurated branch will be the ninth Central Bank of India branch operating in the State.
