Manipur: Civil bodies call for bandh after man dies at Assam Rifles check gate

Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Manipur have called for a bandh in Tengnoupal district from April 13 following the death of a sick person at an Assam Rifles check gate.

According to reports, the person died in the vehicle after being detained by Assam Rifles personnel at the Sita check gate.

"Haokip was being taken to Imphal for treatment as he was seriously ill. The Assam Rifles personnel who were on duty at the check gate detained them. He passed away while waiting for the pass," sources stated.

Following the incident, residents of Sita, including the Kuki Students Organisation (KSO), Tengnoupal block, stormed the Sita AR outpost (20 Btn Assam Rifles) and announced a total bandh in Tengnoupal block from 5:00 am on April 13.
