FIFA 2022 qualifiers: Six footballers from Manipur selected for Indian squad

India will play their three matches against Qatar on June 3, Bangladesh on June 7, and Afghanistan on June 15 for the qualifiers

Six players from Manipur have been included in the 28-member squad for the  FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers.

India football team head coach Igor Stimac, on May 19, announced the 28-member squad for the three upcoming matches in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Qualifiers, which saw six young footballers from the tiny state of Manipur making it to the list.

The six players include Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem (goalkeeper), Chinglensana Singh Konsham (defender), Udanta Singh Kumam (midfielder), Suresh Singh Wangjam (midfielder), Mohammad Yasir (midfielder) and Bipin Singh (midfielder).

The 28-member team left for Doha on May 19, and are currently under compulsory quarantine, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) said.

India will play their three matches against Qatar on June 3, Bangladesh on June 7, and Afghanistan on June 15 for the qualifiers.
