170 COVID violators detained in Manipur; Rs 44,200 collected as fine

IMPHAL:

A total of 170 persons were arrested on Sunday for not wearing face masks and failing to maintain social distancing, given the rampaging surge in COVID infections. 

The Manipur police department arrested the violators as preventive measures to control the spread of deadly COVID-19 in the state.

After issuing strict warnings, the police released the offenders after a few hours. The department also collected Rs 44,200 as a fine from the offenders. 

Considerably, the police have collected Rs 2,08,88,860 as fine from 1,41,768 offenders across 16 districts in the state so far and detained 51,850 vehicles in this connection. 

Thoubal in Manipur tops the list with a collection of Rs 60,93,070 as fine and detention of 65,895 violators in the district to date.
