Assam: Two dumpers seized for illegally transporting sand in Nalbari
Two dumpers laden with sand were seized on National Highway 31 near Barkura in Nalbari district of Assam on June 2.
According to sources, forest personnel during patrolling duty impounded the dumpers bearing registration numbers AS14C 8474 and AS01FC 372 for transporting sand illegally at around 1.30 pm.
When asked, the truck drivers could not produce relevant documents permitting them to carry the material.
Offences committed under Sections 63 and 64 of Assam Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 2013 have been registered and both the vehicles are now under the custody of Nalbari forest range.
“The sands were illegally procured from river beds. It is a threat to biodiversity. The sand mafias are running a nexus in the area,” a source said.
