GUWAHATI:

The last rites of martyred jawan Rifleman Suman Swargiary of 46 Assam Rifles, was performed with full state honours at his ancestral village in Thaikarakuchi, Assam on November 15.

Suman was the only son of Kanak Swargiary and Lalita Swargiay. One of his uncle’s sons kindled the pyre of Suman.

State ministers Keshab Mahanta and UG Brahma were among senior police and military officials present at the last journey of the slain jawan, who was killed along with Col Viplav Tripathi, his family, and four other jawans in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on November 13.

The vehicle carrying the jawan's body reached his ancestral place this morning. The mortal remains of the brave soldier remained at the airport for the whole night following a technical snag of Imphal-Guwahati flight.

His body was brought to GNBI Airport at Borjhar in Guwahati at 7.30 am on Monday, from where it was taken to his hometown.

His family members revealed that Suman was supposed to return home for his son’s third birthday in December. Swargiyari had called his wife, Juri Swargiary, only an hour before the ambush attack, which took his life

Swargiary’s family members who live in Thoikerakuchi, under the Barama police station of Baksa district, received the news of his death on November 14 morning.

Swargiary laid down his life in a militant attack, alongside a commanding officer, his family, and 4 other jawans on the ill-fated day of November 13. The convoy he was travelling in came under heavy firing from militants in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on November 13.
