GANGTOK:

The first residence under the flagship “Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana (SGAY)” was inaugurated by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang at Nandok, Syari on Monday.

"The SGAY was initiated to help the poor with housing and other amenities in the rural areas. A parallel initiative SUGAY will offer the same in the urban areas,” said CM Tamang, speaking at the inaugural function.

Giving details about the residences constructed under SGAY, the CM said that the houses are single-storey RCC structures, consisting of a living room, two bedrooms, kitchen, and toilet along with TV, furniture, and other amenities.

Houses under the SGAY have been successfully allocated to the beneficiaries, which was not done by the previous government despite promises on the same, claimed Tamang, adding that his government is committed to the welfare of the poor in the state.

Under SGAY, a total of 3,050 beneficiaries from across the state will benefit from the state government's flagship programme.
