Assam-Mizoram border row: Gunshots fired, several police personnel injured

Both governments of Assam and Mizoram have failed to come out with a solution on the ongoing border tension.

Several police personnel from Assam were reportedly injured on Monday in a shootout that occurred at Lailapur in Cachar district. 

According to sources, the number of injured personnel is yet to be ascertained till now.

During the shootout, the vehicle of the Cachar Deputy Commissioner was found to be damaged.

“I have just spoken to Hon’ble Chief Minister @ZoramthangaCM ji. I have reiterated that Assam will maintain status quo and peace between the borders of our state. I have expressed my willingness to visit Aizawl and discuss these issues if need be,” CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.

Replying to Himanta's tweet, Mizoram CM Zoramthanga tweeted, “Dear Himanta, after a cordial meeting of CMs by Hon’ble Shri @amitshah ji, surprisingly 2’companies of Assam police with civilians at Vairengte Auto Rickshaw stand inside Mizoram today. They even overrun CRPF personnel/ Mizoram police,”.

The ongoing border tension between Assam and Mizoram has been ongoing for the past few months and both governments have failed to come out with any solution.
