Raijor Dal submits memo to CM Sarma for free COVID-19 vaccination in Assam

The Raijor Dal (RD), on Tuesday, submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma for providing free COVID-19 vaccination to the citizens.

The Raijor Dal (RD), on Tuesday, submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma for providing free COVID-19 vaccination to the citizens of the state.

Jailed leader Akhil Gogoi, who is also the MLA from Sivasagar stated that the government should provide free COVID-19 vaccination to the people and should also assure about the availability of vaccination.

"The government should provide Rs 5000 to the people who are affected due to curfew and lockdown. We urge the new government to increase ICU facilities in every district and provide free medicines to the COVID-19 patients," Gogoi said.

He further stated, "Due to increase in prices of essential commodities, the people are facing problems. So, we demand the government to control the price rise."

NIA permitted MLA Akhil Gogoi to attend the oath-taking ceremony at Assam Assembly. He had applied for permission to attend the Assembly to take oath as MLA.

Akhil Gogoi had contested the Assam Assembly election from jail and convincingly won the election by defeating the BJP candidate Surabhi Rajkonwar by a huge margin of 11,875 votes.

Gogoi is the president of the Raijor Dal but had contested as an Independent. The Raijor Dal contested the polls along with Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), which was launched by the All Assam Students' Union (AASU).

Gogoi is in jail since December 2019 after he staged a massive protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). 

Gogoi was slapped with sedition charges by the NIA.
