Assam: Police arrest prime accused in murder of 14-year-old girl

GUWAHATI:

The police on Thursday nabbed the prime accused in the murder of a 14-year-old girl in Kharghuli, Guwahati on Wednesday.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as 20-year-old Abhishek Gupt, who is a cousin of the victim, Dimple Kumawat. During interrogation, the accused has confessed to committing the crime, the police said.

The accused told the police that the victim had allegedly slapped him during an argument, after which he lost his temper and 'in a fit of rage', killed her using a pressure cooker and a stone.

On Wednesday night, Dimple’s body was found in a pool of blood by her aunt at the former’s residence in Kharghuli. The police had registered a case under Section 303, Indian Penal Code at Latasil Police Station on Wednesday night.
