Omicron scare: Assam completes 100% first dose Covid-19 vaccination

The state health department will certify the final results of the drive and forward them to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

Amid the Omicron scare, Assam has achieved 100 per cent vaccination of the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine on the fifth day of Har Ghar Dastak vaccination-cum-motivational drive, informed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference in the city on December 4.

A bulletin issued by the state's health department informed that on December 3, 60,781 eligible people had taken the first dose, while 14,233 people received their second jab.

In addition to this, 57,196 people took the first dose on December 4.

With the latest figures, a total number of 2,13,50,796 people have received their first jab of the vaccine, and 1,24,66,958, people have taken both doses of the vaccine,  the health bulletin said.

The state health department had launched a week-long Har Ghar Dastak drive on November 29 to cover the leftover 3 lakh, people, for the first jab.

Meanwhile, a total of 2.10 crore people of the state have received the first dose till November 29, an official of the National Health Mission (NHM) said.

During this drive, more than 1 lakh government employees visited each home to certify if all eligible people have been vaccinated with at least one dose of the vaccine. 

The drive was conducted at the level of electoral rolls for more than 28,500 polling stations across the state. All the ministers, guardian ministers, MPs. MLAs and senior administrative officials also participated in the drive which will culminate on December 5.

The state health department will certify the final results of the drive and forward them to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

The campaign for the second dose of Covid-29 vaccination will end in March-end next year, the official added.
