IIT Guwahati final placement sets new record; 530 offers made in two days

While the highest domestic package offered this year was Rs 1.2 crore, the highest international package stood at Rs 2.05 crore that was offered to a PG student.

Despite Covid affecting the recruitment process of many big companies, 530 graduates and post-graduate students of Indian Institute of Technology- Guwahati (IIT-G) were offered jobs in the campus placement session 2020-21.

Of the 530 offers, 28 were international offers, which is a massive jump from last year, when the number of offers stood at just 4. While the highest domestic package offered this year was Rs 1.2 crore, the highest international package stood at Rs 2.05 crore that was offered to a PG student.

A senior official of the institute told the press that, this year, international companies made the highest number of job-offers as compared to the previous years. In addition to that, the students of the institute also received the highest domestic package, highest international package, and the highest PPOs ever, he informed.

In comparison to last year’s 133, the total number of PPOs this year stood at 179, indicating a 34.5 per cent increase from 2020, the official said. According to the institute’s data, the placement percentage this year is 50.14 per cent higher than the previous year.

 The domestic package this year was 70 per cent higher than last year’s Rs 70 lakhs, the institute said.

Notably, the placements at IIT Guwahati this year was held virtually, which is again a first for the institute. Last year, only the coordinating committee members were physically present on the campus while the volunteers were connected virtually.
