DIBRUGARH:

In view of the increasing number of accidents on the highways, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday held a meeting with senior officers of the Transport Department, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) NHIDCL, PWD (Building & NH) to discuss the causative factors and preventive measures.

Chief Minister Sarma said that adequate awareness among the people should be disseminated clearly and concerned departments should identify vulnerable points with proper signages.

“The department should make visible markings for drivers to show roadside schools, hospitals, and other establishments,” said Sarma.

The meeting also discussed the need to use the services of prominent sports personalities and cultural icons to create awareness about the issue.

Notably, in 2019, over 1.51 lakh people have died because of injuries caused by road accidents in India.
