GUWAHATI:

The National Games medalists of Assam will be provided with government jobs from now onwards, the Assam Government announced today.

In response to a question in the ongoing Assembly session, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that along with Olympics, Asian, and Commonwealth games medalists, the medal winners in National Games would also get a government job.

The chief minister also mentioned that the past medal winners in National Games for Assam would be given Sports Pension by the state government.

He said that the government is planning to increase the pension of sportsperson from Rs. 8000 to Rs. 10,000.

The chief minister believes that this decision by the Assam government will help the sportspersons of the state.

To develop sports infrastructure in the state, Rs 10 crores have already been allotted to 52 stadiums each, Sarma informed, adding that the government is considering the construction of district-level sports complexes.

Meanwhile, the house will send a goodwill message to boxer Lovlina Borgohain who will be vying for a medal in Tokyo Olympics, the chief minister said.
