Jorhat boat tragedy: Rescue team recovers third body from Majuli

A week after the Nimatighat boat tragedy in Jorhat, which left two persons dead, rescue teams have recovered a third body from the Brahmaputra River in Majuli on Tuesday.

The body has been identified of one Dr Bikramjit Barua from Jorhat, an ENT specialist, who went missing after the boat mishap on September 8.

Police said that the body, in black shirt, was first spotted floating on the river by local residents at Bhekeli Chapori in Majuli. Soon after, a rescue team arrived at the spot and recovered the body.

Earlier on Saturday, police had recovered the body of Indreshwar Borah, another passenger of the ill-fated Maa Kamala boat that capsized in the river, on September 8.

So far, the police have arrested 12 people, including the owner of the ill-fated boat, in connection with the accident.
