IMD issues orange alert for heavy rain in Arunachal, Assam and Meghalaya from August 24

The IMD on Saturday stated that the monsoon trough running through Bikaner, Shivpuri, Sidhi, Patna and, Balurghat is moving eastwards towards Nagaland. The eastern end of the monsoon trough is likely to remain along the foothills of the Himalayas for 3 to 4 days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for three Northeastern states – Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya – stating that there would be heavy rainfall from August 24. 

The IMD on Saturday stated that the monsoon trough running through Bikaner, Shivpuri, Sidhi, Patna and, Balurghat is moving eastwards towards Nagaland. The eastern end of the monsoon trough is likely to remain along the foothills of the Himalayas for 3 to 4 days.

The enhanced southwest monsoon rainfall over Northeast India from August 24  to 26, 2021 is as follows:

AUGUST 24

Orange Alert: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh. Assam and Meghalaya to witness light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Green (No warning): Light to moderate rainfall at many places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

AUGUST 25

Orange Alert: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh. Assam and Meghalaya to witness light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places.

Green (No warning): Light to moderate rainfall at many places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

AUGUST 26

Orange Alert: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh. Assam and Meghalaya to witness light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Yellow (Be Updated): Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
