GUWAHATI:

Nine digital media organisations working in the Northeast region of India came together to form the Northeast Association for Digital Communication and Media (NADCOM), on Saturday.

The association, registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs as a not-for-profit Section 8 company, will help evolve and amplify the best practices keeping in high regard the ethics and standards of journalism.

As per the guidelines of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, NADCOM has formed an Internal Ethics Committee for Self-Regulation for its member organisations.

The purpose of the Internal Ethics Committee is to provide a mechanism for the public to raise a grievance arising from the content published by the member organizations.

The association’s values stand true with the values enshrined in the Constitution of India in its preamble, the representatives said.

Guwahati-based East MojoG PlusInsideNENortheast NowTime8 and The News Mill; Shillong-based The Northeast Today (TNT), Garo Hills-based Hub News, and Gangtok-based The Sikkim Chronicle are the founding members of the association.

The founding members recently held a General Meeting and elected Sujata Gurung Chowdhury (Northeast Now) as the chairperson of the association for 2021-22. The other office bearers are Afrida Hussain (InsideNE) as Director and Jayanta Deka (The News Mill) as General Secretary.

NADCOM also launched their website - nadcom.in–highlighting their vision and mission statement. The website also acts as the sole point for membership application, which is open to all digital media organisations working in the Northeast region.
