IIT Guwahati signs MoU with Oil India Ltd for research and development in energy sector

The MoU envisages to focus on cooperation in transfer of existing technologies, knowledge up-gradation, training and skill development, and other areas of mutual agreement.

GUWAHATI:

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oil India Limited (OIL) to develop new technologies for energy and related sectors.

The MoU signed between IIT-G director Prof TG Sitharam and OIL executive director Sasanka Pratim Deka on November 11, envisages to focus on cooperation in transfer of existing technologies, knowledge up-gradation, training and skill development, and other areas of mutual agreement.

“This MoU will facilitate a new path for exploring various opportunities in applied and translational research for the sustainable energy sector with OIL. IIT-G is among the few top institutions in the country that is dedicated to developing state-of-the-art technologies and skilled manpower in the field of petroleum and allied industries,” Prof. Sitharam said, outlining the benefits and future perspective of the MoU.

Prof Sitharam informed that IIT-G under the “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” mission is aggressively working with industries in solving research and innovation problems, developing indigenous technologies for them, and cutting down on costs incurred by such industries.

"These joint research activities should be inclined in such a way that it reaches the common people of India and pave way for the upliftment of society,” Prof Sitharam said.

Speaking on the significance of this collaboration, OIL’s Deka said, “The MoU will facilitate technology requirements of OIL, thereby contributing to profitability. This is just the beginning and OIL is looking forward to a bright future by collaborating with IIT-G.”

Those present at the MoU Signing ceremony included faculties from IIT-G and top officials of OIL, who welcomed the collaboration between the government entities.
