Centre allots Rs100 cr to Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizers Corp Ltd

The Centre has released Rs 100 crore for the revival of the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizers Corporation Limited (BVFCL) at Namrup in Dibrugarh district, Assam, on November 10.

Interestingly, the grant was released hours after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with the Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Mansukh Mandaviya, in New Delhi on November 9.

Thanking the Union Minister, Sarma tweeted: "This morning I made a request to Sri @mansukhmadaviya for releasing Rs100 cr Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizers Corp Ltd. Informed just now that amount has been credited. This will help revive BVFCL, benefitting our economy (sic).”

This aid is expected to restore BVFCL’s urea production capacity of 3.90 lakh MT per annum and ensure timely availability of urea to the tea industry and agricultural sector in the entire NER, especially in Assam.

The corporation has 580 employees on a permanent basis and another 1,500 on adhoc basis.
