HUMAN TRAFFICKING: 9 Assam girls rescued from Kerala; 2 accused nabbed

Two accused in connection with the case, identified as Muffazul Haque from Hojai, and Rakbul Hussain from Nagaon, have been arrested, official sources said.

In a major breakthrough by the state police force, nine girls from five districts of Assam, who were trafficked to Kerala recently, have been rescued and brought back to the state, police sources said.

Two accused in connection with the case, identified as Muffazul Haque from Hojai, and Rakbul Hussain from Nagaon, have been arrested, official sources said.

The girls, who were reported to be trafficked to Thampanoor (a locality in Thiruvananthapuram), belong to Hojai, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Morigaon and Kamrup districts.

A case (number 453/2021) was registered under Sections 370 (3)/370 (5) of IPC at Lanka police station in Hojai district on July 11, 2021.

Special director-general of police G.P Singh informed that following a tip-off about an illegal human trafficking racket operating from Assam, a team comprising of eight Assam Police personnel proceeded to Kerala on July 13 in order to rescue the victims and apprehend the accused.
