DIBRUGARH:
Nalbari Police arrested a girl from Kamarkuchi village on Wednesday, for allegedly making an inappropriate gesture directed towards Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
According to police, the girl allegedly put up a status on WhatsApp with a picture of 'beef' and offered the same to the chief minister.
"Such posts directed towards Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma will create disharmony (between) the two communities," said a police source.
Following the incident, the Nalbari unit of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) registered an FIR against the person, terming the post "controversial" and directed towards communal disharmony.
"We registered a 'Suo moto' case and arrested the girl after the matter came to light. However, she was released later on bail because it was a bailable offence," Nalbari SP Pabindra Kumar Nath stated.
