Assam: Youth diagnosed earlier with COVID-induced Black Fungus, dies

GUWAHATI:

A youth diagnosed earlier with COVID inducted black fungus died here at the Apollo Hospital in Guwahati on Wednesday morning.

Sources informed that the youth was diagnosed with COVID triggered Black Fungus. But it could not be immediately ascertained if that was the cause of death.

A 27-year-old youth belonging to Nagaon had tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to a nearby hospital in Nagaon.

However, as his health deteriorated, the youth was transferred to Apollo Hospital in Guwahati, where doctors detected the presence of black fungus in his body. 

Mucormycosis or Black Fungus was first detected in COVID patients in Maharashtra, it gets induced on a patient who is already on heavy medication. According to the Union Health Ministry, it can be stopped by preventing the use of steroids at the early stages of infection.
