52 inmates in Dibrugarh Central jail test positive for COVID-19

Meanwhile, Dibrugarh district administration enforced strict protocols to control the rising surge of the disease

DIBRUGARH:

Altogether 52 inmates in Dibrugarh Central Jail tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, May 18. 

Recently arrested ULFA-I leader Jibon Moran who is in judicial custody in the Dibrugarh Central Jail also tested positive on Monday.

There are 530 inmates in the jail as of date, out of which, 223 were tested yesterday.

Among the 223 inmates, 52 of them tested positive while the remaining 171 tested negative. All the positive cases have been kept in isolation.

According to sources, the COVID-19 test of the remaining 306 inmates will be done soon.

Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha confirmed the development. He said that they have increased the daily COVID testing in Dibrugarh for early detection of the disease.

On Tuesday, 445 positive cases were detected from Dibrugarh district and six people died due to the COVID-19 infection.
