DIBRUGARH:

Senior BJP leader and four-time Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan once again denied cabinet berth in the newly formed Assam cabinet.

Speaking to The Northeast Today (TNT) over the phone from Guwahati on Monday, Phukan said it was the decision taken by the BJP leadership as a whole.

"It's the party's decision, I have to obey the decision. I will work hard for the party and work for the development of my constituency."

Meanwhile, Dibrugarh residents have expressed anguish after senior BJP legislator Prasanta Phukan denied any berth in the newly formed Assam cabinet.

It may be mentioned that Phukan has been representing  Dibrugarh since 2006 seat, and has consecutively won from the constituency.

"We expected that Prasanta Phukan will get a cabinet berth this time but he was denied. He is the senior BJP leader who deserved the post of Cabinet minister but like previous years he again failed to secure a berth in as a cabinet minister," said Rajiv Khound, a resident of Dibrugarh.

Phukan secured 68,762 votes in the 2021 Assam Assembly election and won with a margin of 38,005 votes against Congress candidate Rajkumar Nilanetra Neog.
