GUWAHATI:

Ahead of the third phase of vaccination, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday took stock of the COVID situation in central Assam and asked the deputy commissioners of Nagaon, Hojai and Morigaon districts to ensure safety and speed in rolling out the drive from May 1.

Sonowal asked the DCs to generate total awareness among the people towards vaccination, tests and to constantly monitor availability of oxygen in their respective territories.

He further took stock of the health infrastructure to contain the COVID infections in the districts.

“Since many people (including those between the age group of 18 and 45 years) will turn up for the third phase of vaccination, the DCs must take adequate steps to ensure safety of all,” the Chief Minister said.

Stating that extensive testing will identify infected people and give them medical intervention if required, he said vaccination would shield people from the potential threats of the virus.

He therefore urged the DCs to complete a broad roadmap and identify the areas with more infected people to organise tests and vaccination drives in their respective districts.

Sonowal also stressed on home isolation of the COVID infected people, asking the district magistrates to maintain a constant surveillance on them to determine the need for immediate medical attention.

He further asked the DCs and joint directors of health to take adequate steps for ‘testing facilities’ for the truck drivers from other states coming to their districts.
