Assamese singer Vitali Das passes away due to COVID-19

Assamese singer Vitali Das passed away at the Kalapahar COVID Hospital here on Wednesday evening, official sources confirmed.

Das, who had tested positive for COVID-19 on April 14, was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital after her health deteriorated a few days back.

Prior to her passing away, she was on ventilator support after experiencing difficulty in breathing.

Sources said the artiste, reportedly in her early 40s, could have contracted the virus after performing in a Bihu function at Latasil playground here on April 14.

Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) superintendent, Abhijit Sarma informed the media that Das COVID test report on Wednesday had come out negative, and hence, the mortal remains were handed over to her family for the cremation to be performed in accordance with the COVID-19 protocols.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have condoled the untimely death of the singer.
