DIBRUGARH:

A-20 year-old youth was allegedly killed after a small argument at the Raidang tea estate area in Assam's Tinsukia district on June 13.

The deceased identified as Jugnu Tanti (20) is a resident of Hansara tea estate in Doomdooma.

Sources informed that an argument broke out between Tanti and one Thomas Sikka (19) during a friendly football match.

It was informed that the teammates managed to stop the quarrel before the argument could escalate, however, later in the evening Tanti along with one of his friend Ritik Sonar went to Thomas residence to complain against him to his father.

Following this, a strong argument ensued between both the boys when Thomas father Ramen Sikka in an enraged condition came out of the house with a machete and hacked Jugnu Tanti to death.

His friend Ritik Sonar who received several blows was also seriously injured in the incident.

Sonar was later shifted to the Assam Medical College and Hospital. The locals who gathered at the site somehow managed to subdue the killer and informed the police.

An angry mob later set the house of Sikka on fire resulting in an explosion of an LPG cylinder and vast damage. Fire tenders had to be called in to douse the fire.

Tinsukia SP Debojit Deuri on Monday said, "Both the father and son have been arrested in connection with the incident. It was an unfortunate death triggered by a minor argument. The dead youth was the only earning member of the family."

ATTSA leader went to the deceased family and demanded that the garden management should compensate the family, and a permanent job should be given to the deceased wife.
