Assam: Five arrested in connection with Tinsukia mob lynching case

DIBRUGARH:

Tinsukia police on Monday arrested five persons in connection with the recent mob lynching case in which a 34-year old man named Sarat Moran had died.

In addition to five arrests, four other persons have been taken under remand for interrogation.

Sarat, a resident of Kordoiguri village was lynched on suspicion of cattle theft on June 12.

"We have sent five persons to jail and another four are under police remand for further investigation. We have set up a special investigation team(SIT) under ASP to probe the matter," said Tinsukia SP Debojit Deori.

Sarat's father Prabeswar Moran(90) and mother Ulapi Moran(85) are in utter state of shock since the day of the lynching, stating that their son was the sole breadwinner for them.

Sarat was rescued by the Baghjan police, and later on, shifted to FRU hospital in Doomdooma where he succumbed to his injuries. Police found several cut marks on the victim's body.

The police informed that Sarat was brutally tortured during the lynching.

Giving details about the incident, police officials informed that the victim had gone to a friend's house for an overnight stay when he was caught on suspicion of being a cattle lifter and lynched.

A similar incident of mob lynching was reported earlier from Tinsukia when a mother and son were lynched at Sewpur tea estate.
