Man lynched in Assam on Suspicion of Being ‘Cattle-Lifter’
A 34-year-old man was allegedly lynched on suspicion of cattle theft at Korjonga village in Tinsukia district on June 12.
The deceased was identified as Sarat Moran.
According to sources, Moran was rescued by Baghjan police from Korjonga village and was later shifted to FRU hospital in Doomdooma where he succumbed to his injuries.
Talking to TNT-The Northeast Today, Tinsukia SP Debojit Deori said, “We have picked up 12 people in connection with the incident and have interrogated them. We have found several cut marks on the victim's body and are waiting for the post-mortem report”.
Deori said, “We have registered a case under section 302/34 of the Indian Penal Code based on an FIR filed by the victim’s uncle”.
According to police sources, the victim had gone to stay overnight at a friend’s house and was caught by villagers on suspicion of being a cattle lifter and subsequently lynched him.
“Till now it is not clear if he was a cattle lifter. But many cattle were stolen from Korjonga village in the past one month,” Deori added.
