DIBRUGARH:

An adult Royal Bengal Tiger carcass was recovered from Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNP & TR) by forest officials, on Tuesday.

The carcass of the Royal Bengal Tiger is the second carcass found in KNP & TR this month.

According to a forest official, the ten-days-old carcass of the adult tiger was found near the Laudubi area under Kaziranga Range.

"We cannot ascertain the real cause of the tiger's death. We have collected all the samples for DNA and toxicological study and sent it to a laboratory," the forest official said.

"We have suspected that the tiger died due to a fight with another adult tiger," he added.

Meanwhile, a forest guard was suspended on June 18 for "unwarranted firing" leading to the death of a 10-year-old male Royal Bengal Tiger in the KNP & TR.

An inquiry conducted by the Assistant Conservator of Forests into the incident revealed that the firing was unwarranted based on which the staff concerned was suspended.

The carcass of a four-year-old male tiger was found in the Sidha Kathoni area of the national park on June 5.

This is the fourth tiger carcass found in the KNP & TR since February this year.

The KNP & TR, set up in 1908, is one of India's seven UNESCO world heritage sites and extends across Assam's Golaghat, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Biswanath and Karbi Anglong districts along the Arunachal Pradesh border.
