Assam: Three NSCN (IM) cadres apprehended in Charaideo district

The militants were identified as Tinglu Konyak (25), Nokyeng Konyak (25) and Yangnu Konyak (24) all hailing from Mon district of Nagaland.

DIBRUGARH:

The Charaideo Police and 12 Assam Rifles conducted a joint anti-insurgency operation on Thursday, and apprehended three NSCN (IM) cadres from Balijan tea estate in upper Assam.

The militants were identified as Tinglu Konyak (25), Nokyeng Konyak (25) and Yangnu Konyak (24) all hailing from Mon district of Nagaland.

Security personnel also recovered three pistols from their possession along with live bullets, police informed.

"We have registered a case against them under section 25 (1A) and section 35 of the Arms Act at Sonari police station. We suspect that they were involved in inter-state arms smuggling. Interrogation is going on," said Charaideo SP Sudhakar Singh.

Earlier on Wednesday, two militants belonging to NSCN (Khaplang) and NSCN-Khango Konyak faction surrendered before the Longding superintendent of police Vikram Harimohan Meena in Arunachal Pradesh's Longding district.
