Assam Police arrest Superintendent of Excise on bribery charges

Assam Police Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), on Thursday, arrested Superintendent of Excise, Manshjyoti Das, for allegedly demanding and taking bribe from wine shop owners.

Assam Police Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), on Thursday, arrested Superintendent of Excise, Manshjyoti Das, for allegedly demanding and taking bribe from wine shop owners.

Das was arrested alongside office peon Arjun Basfore, an off-roll employee from Tinsukia district.

Das was caught red-handed by the ACB officials after the anti-corruption task force had laid a trap to nab him while demanding money.

11 members from the task force were sent to various locations in Tinsukia to get the details about Das.

"A team of 11 ACB officials laid a trap in Tinsukia after getting information about the officer of taking bribe. Altogether, 11 ACB officials laid a trap and caught him red-handed while taking bribe," said a police source.

A case was registered at the ACB police station against Das.

Both the accused will be taken to Guwahati, where they shall be produced before the special court on Friday, sources informed.
