Assam: Over 10,000 litres of illicit liquor destroyed in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH:

In continuation of their crackdown against illicit liquor consumption and sale, Dibrugarh police destroyed over 10,000 litres of illicit liquor in different areas of the district on Monday.


Police personnel conducted raids against the sale of illicit liquor in Moran, Bamunbari, Chabua, Tingrai, Joypur, Sasoni and Barbaruah, and seized massive quantities of country-made liquor.


Speaking about the haul, Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra said, "We will continue our operation against illicit liquor sale in Dibrugarh. Over 10,000 litres of illicit liquor and 35 cases of IMFL were recovered today from different areas of the district."


Likewise, on Sunday, Dibrugarh police seized over 7,000 litres of country-made liquor from different places of Dibrugarh.


Police officials have intensified their efforts to prevent the illegal sale of alcohol in the state, and numerous raids have been conducted at different locations.


Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that due to the illegal sale of sulai in some areas, the COVID-19 cases are on the rise.
