Assam: One dead, three injured in grenade blast in Tinsukia

Sources informed that two motorcycle-borne miscreants lobbed the grenade in front of a hardware shop, owned by a person named Turan Agarwalla.

DIBRUGARH:

One person was killed, and three others were seriously injured in a grenade blast that happened at the Tingrai market in the Tinsukia district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjit Singh (25) of Tingrai Hunkapukhuri.

Meanwhile, the three others who were injured in the blast-Monjit Das, Sujit Talukdar and Ganasyam Agarwala were rushed to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) for necessary treatment.

Sources informed that two motorcycle-borne miscreants lobbed the grenade in front of a hardware shop, owned by a person named Turan Agarwalla.

Giving details about the blast, Tinsukia Superintendent of Police P Vaibhav Nimbalkar said, "One person has been killed in the suspected grenade blast and three persons have been seriously injured. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Right now we cannot ascertain the motive of the blast. We have started the investigation."

"Right now we cannot say who has done the work. Our investigation is at a primary stage." the SP added.

Meanwhile, sources have informed that ULFA (I) may be behind the blast.

In a similar incident on May 11 (Tuesday), a 12-year old minor was killed in a grenade blast at Khota Sema village in Jagun in Assam's Tinsukia district.

Earlier, Himanta Biswa Sarma, after taking oath as the new Chief Minister of Assam, had appealed to ULFA (I) Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah to give up on arms and join the peace process.
